Preventive Health Awareness

Mental Health – October 2022

When we face phases of life that leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, we often turn to a mental health professional or even the internet for coping mechanisms. But people in remote communities usually just think ‘jee ghabra raha hai’ or ‘dil bhaari lag raha hai’. Their thoughts don’t go beyond that because the have no knowledge of the term ‘mental health’. This term simply doesn’t exist in their vocabulary.

Many remote communities don’t have enough doctors to adequately treat physical symptoms, let alone mental health symptoms. We find people with psychiatric challenges who are called derogatory terms like ‘pagal’, being forced to disconnect from their families, friends and the community. This just makes their condition worse. The stigma and web of denial prevent people from ever getting the help they need.

You can help CBN Foundation teams bring much needed knowledge and support to families in remote communities. Your support will help families, who are in the throes of finding a stable income in the aftermath of the pandemic, to cope with the stresses and pressures of feeding their little ones. Your support will empower women, children and the elderly to face their futures with hope instead of despair. Visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to see how your support is turning lives around and bringing a light at the end of a tunnel.

Preventing Addiction – September 2022

Between the ages of 14 and 22 young people are particularly vulnerable to substance abuse and addictions. That thrilling first sip, smoke or swipe often becomes the entry point into full blown addiction . Adolescents’ curiosity and fearlessness are traits that help them grow bold and knowledgeable, but they backfire if young people not guided towards the right path, and begin to explore the forbidden pleasures of alcohol, drugs or compulsive patterns. Today, not every predator has a knife in his hand, some come in fruity flavours, iconic cartons or even on social media.

Along with the well-known dangers of substance addiction, behavioural addictions pose a real threat too. Life comes to a screeching halt when behavioural addictions creep in. Daily tasks like schoolwork, sports, or even the simple joy of childhood are lost. The pandemic has stolen enough from children and teenagers, and we want to make sure addictions don’t add to that. This September, we are discussing prevention of addiction in the youth. We are sharing life-saving knowledge on preventing addiction to children, teenagers and families.

Your support will enable CBN Foundation teams to reach more communities where substances have a way of reaching but awareness doesn’t. You can help the youth learn to say a bold ‘NO’ to temptations. If you are willing to share vital information on prevention of addiction, please collaborate with us. Visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to see how your support is helping adolescents fight addiction and temptations.

Nutrition & Anaemia – August 2022

As the sky fills with dark, roaring clouds, the children begin venturing out – ready to float their paper boats and look for rainbows. After months of excessive heat, monsoons are welcomed with joyful hearts! While the thick clouds and showers of rain may bring the pollution and dust levels down, the rate of waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases shoot up.

Families in marginalised communities struggle to fight off these life-threatening illnesses simply because they lack basic knowledge and resources. That’s where we come in. Through our workshops, we are empowering families this monsoon season. Awareness workshops on cleanliness, healthy diet and the importance of immunisation are being conducted. Interactive workshops will teach communities to purify water and use ORS as a life-saving weapon against diarrhoea.

You can help turn the tide for their families by supporting the Preventive Health campaign this monsoon season. Contribute to bringing a silver lining in their clouds and ensuring families have clean, drinking water and a mosquito-free environment. Nutrition & Anaemia – November 2021

More than 9.2 lakh children are ‘severely acute malnourished’, according to government data. At different stages of life, children require different nutrients. As their needs change, so should their food consumption. Ironically, India, being the world’s second largest producer of food, surprisingly is also home to the highest number of undernourished people in the world.

CBN Foundation is all set to combat these alarming numbers with carefully designed workshops that are based on the wise words of Thomas Edison that the doctors of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but will rather cure and prevent disease with nutrition. Our workshops promote the planning and preparation of mid-day meals that include nuts and seeds, iron-rich foods, and locally produced foods that are easily accessible to all. Good nutrition will enable children to develop mentally and physically in a healthy way!

With your support, CBN Foundation teams can reach the most remote communities across India to ensure children and families understand their nutritional needs and meet them with locally grown food.
