Support a Need

As the sky fills with dark, roaring clouds, the children begin venturing out – ready to float their paper boats and look for rainbows. After months of excessive heat, monsoons are welcomed with joyful hearts! While the thick clouds and showers of rain may bring the pollution and dust levels down, the rate of waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases shoot up.

Families in marginalised communities struggle to fight off these life-threatening illnesses simply because they lack basic knowledge and resources. That’s where we come in. Through our workshops, we are empowering families this monsoon season. Awareness workshops on cleanliness, healthy diet and the importance of immunisation are being conducted. Interactive workshops will teach communities to purify water and use ORS as a life-saving weapon against diarrhoea.

You can help turn the tide for their families by supporting the Preventive Health campaign this monsoon season. Contribute to bringing a silver lining in their clouds and ensuring families have clean, drinking water and a mosquito-free environment. Looks, color, gender, age, abilities… These are just a few reasons people are segregated into different categories. People who are different from most, are often looked down upon and shunned from activities, gatherings or society in general. Even elderly people are often left feeling invisible and invalid because of the way they are treated. To make matters worse, not only are they left feeling alone, they are often devalued and made to feel unwanted.

Here’s a truth bomb: most of us have done this too, somewhere, somehow. We’ve made someone feel less valued, or less important than others. We’ve avoided giving opportunities and due respect to them, and pitied them instead. Sometimes we’ve even practiced tokenism and called it inclusion or kindness.

This June, CBN Foundation is bringing to light genuine and unique ways to be intentionally inclusive of all the people around us. Whether it is our house help, the differently-abled person on our metro route, or the various people we cross on the roads of this bustling country. We’re discussing Social Role Valorization in a way to empower everyone we meet with the power of inclusion! From the right words to use to the needed mindset – we’re discussing it all!

We’re conducting awareness workshops to explain what SRV is and how we can learn to truly include the devalued people around us. Your support towards the Inclusion Campaign would change numerous lives for the better. Your contribution would enable more SRV awareness and Inclusion awareness workshops that would ensure many who are devalued feel valued and respected; it would ensure that they are given opportunities to participate in the community with the support of the community. Have you noticed that Delhi has plastic mountains? They are landfills filled with unimaginable amounts of trash. Delhi on its own produces around 10,000 tonnes of garbage every day. A huge amount of this waste is being dumped in the overflowing three landfill sites of Delhi. To make matters worse, these garbage piles that plague our city catch fire and cause unbearable stench and air pollution that blows far and wide, contaminate water and put lives at risk, and often partially collapse causing irreparable damage and even death. Unlike how we love to drive on the hills of Mussoorie and Manali, trucks drive on these plastic mountains to dump even more garbage at the top. Surely the view wouldn’t be all that great!

We’ve been speaking to families in remote communities about the three R’s – recycle, reuse and reduce. And this month, we are directing our energy towards spreading valuable knowledge about eliminating single use plastics in our daily life. With the government’s new rule of banning all single use plastic items coming into effect form July, we have been working on innovative, and very doable steps. From using steel bottles and dabbas instead of plastic ones to using beeswax cloth instead of cling film, we’ve got numerous ideas on zero waste living.

Visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to be inspired by simple yet effective ways to eliminate plastics, and do share ways you’ve been caring for the environment. Every single family taking small steps towards eliminating plastics and reducing waste makes a big difference to the environment. Additionally, your support towards supporting the Lifestyle For Environment Campaign will enable our teams to reach out to more remote communities to spread this crucial knowledge.

It’s time to once again renew our commitment to the environment. As we see the roadside drains chocked with garbage and marine life choking on garbage, it’s time we take steps towards making the three R’s a part of our daily life. Even small steps will make a difference in the long run – carrying steel bottles instead of plastic water bottles, carrying cloth bags for groceries, and reusing cardboard packaging boxes that we receive in the mail. And why discard clothes when you can mend them?

This month, CBN Foundation is spreading awareness in remote locations through Awareness and Recycling Workshops where experts will share valuable techniques on using tailor waste to make reusable sanitary pads, and on visible mending. Burning questions will be answered including how each of us can reduce waste by making some shifts in our lifestyle, and how we can recycle and reuse the things we have.

Who does this work matter to? Everyone who calls the planet Earth home. With more of us living mindful lives, the planet stands a better chance at being saved. So please support the CBN Foundation Awareness and Recycling Workshops which also change the livelihood of many women! Recycling and reusing have been ingrained in the Indian culture from a time before sustainability became a buzzword. Whether it be passing down clothes to younger siblings which eventually become a duster and then a mop, or selling off old newspapers, notebooks and utensils to the kabadi wala to utilizing kitchen waste to nourish plants and feed cattle. Creatively, newspapers have been folded into paper bags, old tins of malt drinks have been recycled into pots for plants and scraps of fabric stitched together to form patchwork quilts.

Despite the numerous household sustainability practices and culture of recycling waste, we have managed to damage the environment with our careless practices. Simple habits that align us with nature and living a more mindful lifestyle are needed. We also must recognize the force behind the sustainability practices we have learned and followed for generations – women.

It’s no secret that climate change has always affected women and men differently. No matter the challenges, women have managed to find innovative ways to procure and save water, supply food, and find fuel for cooking and heating. These agents of change must be made a part of the solution towards a sustainable tomorrow.

This month, CBN Foundation is promoting sustainability practices and the inclusion of marginalized and differently-abled. On International Women’s Day, we are delighted to introduce you to the inspiring differently-abled women who have risen above all challenges to contribute to the work of CBN Foundation.

With your support, women and families in marginalized communities can learn about clean, renewable resources and other modern sustainability practices. Contribute to the work of CBN Foundation and help us make sure everyone is included and appreciated as we all work to increase sustainability practices. While the internet brought a lot of excitement and convenience into our lives during the pandemic and lockdowns, it also brought to light some very disturbing facts. The National Crime Record Bureau 2020 data states that there was an alarming 400% increase in cyber-crimes against children since 2019. And just two days after 2020’s lockdown Pornhub saw a bump up of 95% with a surge in demand for violent explicit content involving children.

Parents work hard to safeguard their children from strangers and dark alleys, but the equally heinous dangers of the dark net are often ignored or mishandled. As children sit in the confines of their own homes, they can be easily targeted by predators online. Clearly, the topic of online safety needs to be addressed more deeply to mitigate its dangers.

This February, CBN Foundation workshops are revolving around cyber security for families and children, especially in marginalised communities. Our teams are venturing into remote communities to spread vital information to parents and children who never had access to the ways of the online world. From cyber safety rules to ways to recognise fraud, scams and threats, they will learn to build a firewall around themselves. Through informative activities, children will learn how to draw the line with strangers in cyberspace and protect themselves from being bullied or exploited.

Your support will help CBN Foundation reach more vulnerable communities across the country and empower them with knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their little ones online. To see the difference you are making in their lives, visit Instagram and Facebook.

Starting day one of this new year, CBN Foundation is set to ensure every single day is used to enable a more sustainable lifestyle for remote communities. We are interacting with communities across India, through our awareness workshops, to teach the best practices on global warming, avoiding single-use plastic, water conservation, and composting among many other topics to be 1.5 degree Celsius closer to conserving our planet.

The impact of throwing unsegregated garbage, using plastic only one time or letting taps leak is no longer on the distant horizon. It is here NOW! Our use and throw culture needs to end to prevent a rise in global temperatures. Environmentalists say that there is no time left to debate this. Action has to be taken immediately. While rapid and significant changes need to be made by our global systems, as individuals, our lifestyles make a big difference too. Being more mindful of our textile waste and food waste, saving more water and using eco-friendly products are some simple changes we can start making to get closer to our sustainability goals.

With support from partners like you, CBN Foundation can empower underserved communities with information and practices critical to saving the environment. Through our awareness workshops this month, more than 1000 children will learn skills that will make their carbon footprint smaller and their lifestyle more sustainable. Join us to ensure that more families are enabled to make life-saving environmental changes this year. See the difference you are making on Instagram and Facebook.

More than 9.2 lakh children are ‘severely acute malnourished’, according to government data. At different stages of life, children require different nutrients. As their needs change, so should their food consumption. Ironically, India, being the world’s second largest producer of food, surprisingly is also home to the highest number of undernourished people in the world.

CBN Foundation is all set to combat these alarming numbers with carefully designed workshops that are based on the wise words of Thomas Edison that the doctors of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but will rather cure and prevent disease with nutrition. Our workshops promote the planning and preparation of mid-day meals that include nuts and seeds, iron-rich foods, and locally produced foods that are easily accessible to all. Good nutrition will enable children to develop mentally and physically in a healthy way!

With your support, CBN Foundation teams can reach the most remote communities across India to ensure children and families understand their nutritional needs and meet them with locally grown food.

MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

This October, along with the world, CBN Foundation, is marking Mental Health Awareness Day by initiating meaningful dialogues on the subject. CBN Foundation is working to create awareness, impart knowledge and empower women, children, adolescents and parents. The awareness workshops ‘Mann ko kisne dekha hai’ and ‘Let’s Talk’ aim to promote mental wellbeing. They are designed to bust myths, end taboos and encourage real conversations around the topic.

Many adolescents fall prey to substance abuse, and unhealthy habits, and many women suffer in silence because no one ever told them it was okay to not be okay! CBN Foundation workshops are spreading the word that it’s healthy to talk, share and seek guidance!

How you can help
CBN Foundation’s Mental Health program to Help Adolescents Thrive will reach over one thousand children through videos, circle time, activities and counselling. Your support towards this initiative will ensure a stronger and more resilient generation of children. To see the difference partners like you are making,

We are all striving to cope and accept a lifestyle that includes the rise and fall of Covid cases, lockdowns and increasing uncertainty of the economy. The marginalised communities are struggling the most to simply survive. Women in particular face gender inequality, taboos and lack of access to menstrual hygiene products due to loss of income among other reasons.

At a time when dialogues about periods and the necessary facilities for healthy management are crucial, CBN Foundation is conducting awareness workshops for adolescents and women in remote parts of the country, such as Lamdon School, Ladakh. These workshops are designed specifically to address the fear, myths and taboos surrounding periods. They ensure that children grow up with the right knowledge at the right age, enabling them to make informed decisions for their bodies.

Women also receive, reusable, eco-friendly, cloth pads made from tailor-waste in a kit that enables them to experience dignified and safe periods every month. The Period Kits are made by differently-abled artisans in Ladakh making them a source of comfort for the receivers and a source of livelihood for the artisans. With your valuable support, we can extend this net of knowledge and Period Kits to more vulnerable communities in India.

Good health and strong immunity are critical, especially as reports of an impending 3rd wave loom around us. The marginalised communities, particularly, are more susceptible to suffering during the new waves of the virus, as many vulnerable families have had to decrease their food consumption and scrimp on quality of food at this time.

UN reports state that the Covid pandemic caused an estimated 18% increase in the number of people facing hunger. Nearly one in three people in the world did not have access to adequate food in 2020 specially in countries like ours where climate related disasters too compounded the impact of poverty and hunger. Now our country faces an uncertainty in the timing and intensity of a third wave but there is certainty that we need to be prepared for onslaughts on our health.

This August we are taking the Delhi Mohalla Kitchens up a notch and providing homemade nutritious dabbas to families as they brace for the impending 3rd wave of Covid 19. Healthy, fresh and delicious meals are being provided to families suffering from prolonged symptoms of Covid that leave them incapable of earning a living.

The meals are planned and prepared meticulously. Only with the freshest of veggies and produce. Cooked to perfection by ladies from the community, prioritizing safety and hygiene at all times! Delivery is contactless by a team of dedicated volunteers.

A minimum contribution of Rs. 6000 enables you to deliver nutritious dabbas to 100 families a day. Donate now to give families a fighting chance against the pandemic, poverty and global hunger.

To prevent water borne disease from adding to the health burden of the nation CBN Foundation wants to empower each family to be self-reliant with Biosand Water Filters. This sustainable sanitation tool is perfect for providing families with clean water. It does not need electricity to run and can be installed even in a simple village hut.

CLEAN WATER & SANITATION

There are thousands of mothers in India who don’t have access to menstrual products. On Mother’s Day this year, CBN Foundation wants to gift them dignity in the form of a period kit. In an exciting partnership with MESH and the differently abled artisans of PAGIR, Ladakh we have created a kit of reusable, eco-friendly sanitary pads made from upcycled cloth. These sustainable, plastic free sanitary pads provide an economical alternative to women who oftentimes have no menstrual hygiene products at all. Support the gift of dignity.

To see the difference, you are making to mothers, mother earth and differently abled artisans visit CBNFoundation on Instagram and Facebook.

A minimum contribution of Rs. 6,000 can help 10 women to have safe and dignified periods for up to three years!

CLIMATE CARE

At CBN Foundation we are focusing on creating awareness about Climate Care. We are addressing the issues of climate change, the discontinuation of single-use plastic and the urgency of water conservation. We will do this through a series of workshops which are designed to sensitise the youth about plastic pollution caused by single use plastics and the urgent need for water conservation. A Water Conservation Concert and a recycling event have been planned among other things, to create awareness in a creative manner.

COMMUNITY KITCHEN

The first CBN Foundation Community Kitchen has been opened in Delhi at what was once a hustling bustling Community Development Centre. Before Covid -19 infection tore through the little community, children came to attend after school classes and ladies came to learn livelihood skills like sewing and hair dressing, here.

The families comprising mostly of daily wagers who live around this area have been without work since the lockdown was first announced in March 2020. A long spell of being out of work for people who work, earn their daily wages and bring home a handful of rice, lentils and potatoes for the evening meal.

CBN Foundation opened up the Community Kitchen by employing the mothers of the children who attend the after school programme at the Community Centre. As of now 10 women are earning their wages here by making nutritious , hygienically prepared meals to serve to the long lines of hungry families.

The CBN Foundation Community Kitchen is prepared to serve 200 people one nutritious meal a day through the week. If the plight of daily wagers and their families moves you, support them now, with your donations.

1 meal a day costs just Rs 25
200 meals a day cost Rs 5000.
