WOMEN’S PROTECTION – March 2024

Gender inequality is a global issue, and India is no exception, with a ranking of 127 out of 146 countries in the 2023 Gender Gap Report of the World Gender Forum. In numerous small towns and villages across India, women face limited opportunities compared to men and often lack awareness of what inclusion entails. This glaring disparity emphasizes the urgent need to increase efforts to ensure women have equitable access to opportunities in all parts of life.

This March, we’re launching the Women’s Protection campaign to address gender inequality head-on. The campaign aims to reach marginalized women nationwide, raising awareness about the significance of inclusion and educating them about their rights. Through workshops, we will raise awareness on inclusion, deliver financial literacy training, and focus on empowering women with investment strategies and knowledge of government schemes.

With the support of volunteers and experts, we’re committed to empowering women to become self-reliant and advocating for their equal participation in society. Join us at CBN Foundation in empowering women to be included. Your support of the Women’s Protection campaign will enable our teams to reach remote areas and provide crucial awareness to women and families.

CYBER SAFETY AWARENESS – February 2024

Children today are quick to embrace technology, with many learning to use phones before they learn to hold a pencil. The well-known fact is that the internet poses risks to children comparable to real-world threats. Addressing internet safety is crucial, especially for parents who did not grow up using the internet. As the safety landscape evolves, teaching too must stay current.

The urgency to address online safety is emphasized by Gen Z, the first digital-native generation, deeply immersed in social media like Snapchat and Whisper. This shift calls for a nuanced approach to Cyber Safety education, considering the unique challenges arising from their digital upbringing.

The National Crime Record Bureau’s 2020 data reveals a staggering 400% increase in cybercrimes against children since 2019. CBN Foundation is launching the Cyber Safety Awareness campaign to create a digital firewall for children in remote communities. Our comprehensive workshops done by experts will cover topics like fraud, cyberbullying, and adult content, aiming to equip children with the skills to stay safe online. Through interactive sessions, we will raise awareness about online advantages and dangers. Simultaneously, we will empower parents with basic internet understanding and guide them on establishing open communication with their children for safety through specialized lesson plans.

Let’s come together to empower those in marginalised communities, parents, and caregivers, to impart skills for protection against online threats and crimes. Support the CBN Foundation Cyber Safety Awareness campaign and enable our teams to reach remote areas and provide crucial awareness to children and families. CHILD PROTECTION: GOOD TOUCH & BAD TOUCH AWARENESS – January 2024

Wishing you a Happy New Year! CBN Foundation is kicking off the year by addressing a crucial concern: raising awareness of good touch and bad touch, especially among children and parents in marginalized communities. These vulnerable groups often experience exploitation, with economically disadvantaged children facing a higher risk due to limited resources. While the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, enacted in 2012, provides legal protection, the emphasis on awareness remains crucial.

It is essential to equip parents in marginalized communities with the knowledge to recognize signs of abuse and create a safe environment for children to report any discomfort. The CBN Foundation Child Protection Campaign includes the introduction of lesson plans on Good Touch and Bad Touch for marginalized children and parents. These plans cover various topics, including recognizing feelings, establishing a Safe Circle, online safety, legal rights for children, and a special lesson for parents. Additionally, interactive workshops with volunteers on child protection awareness will be conducted in marginalized communities where vulnerable individuals may lack access to this crucial information.

Let’s unite to empower the most vulnerable among us, ensuring a safer and more secure future for everyone. Your support will enable our teams to reach remote areas and provide essential awareness to those facing difficulties without a means to protect themselves. JOY OF GIVING – December 2023

The festive season is here, bringing joy and celebrations for those fortunate with diverse skills and abundant job prospects. However, a noticeable divide emerges when we think about differently-abled children and individuals in marginalized communities. This part of our society encounters substantial barriers, lacking both opportunities and essential skills for personal progress. While some revel in the festivities, this contrast highlights the urgency to address these inequalities and strive for a more inclusive and equitable society.

This December, CBN Foundation is launching the Joy of Giving campaign to bridge gaps and embody the true spirit of the festive season. Our aim is to empower not just the children but also their families, providing them with the confidence that their youngsters have the skills and knowledge for a brighter future. Interactive workshops on job search strategies, tips for job security, and practical grooming sessions will help these children smoothly transition from school to the real world. In addition to vocational training, we’re providing Braille books to visually impaired children.

Your support will ensure our teams can reach more vulnerable children who desire to live a life full of opportunities and crave for equality. Embrace the Joy of Giving! Visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to see how your support is empowering lives. We wish you a joyous festive season!

Empower women & children – November 2023

What goes on behind closed doors? Many seemingly happy families hide the grim reality of domestic violence behind closed doors. Along with the sound of dishes, the sound of physical abuse and the shattering of bones can also start to seem normal. Women are often dependent on their abusive partners due to limited opportunities for education and employment. The situation for children is also distressing as they witness and experience violence, leaving a deep impact on their minds and affecting their development. For vulnerable populations, escaping abusive environments can be difficult due to social and economic barriers.

Through the CBN Foundation Women & Child Protection Awareness Campaign, this November, we want to teach them that violence is not normal and provide them with the tools to keep themselves safe. We will shed light on the long-term negative effects of violence on children and focus on the harm it does to their education. Your support will enable CBN Foundation teams to conduct interactive workshops with volunteers and experts.

Your support towards the Women & Child Protection Awareness Campaign will empower women and children with the awareness that violence is not normal, and that they don’t have to live with it or accept it. Visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to see how your support is empowering lives.

Mental Health Awareness – October 2023

Imagine a world where the concept of mental health is shrouded in ignorance. Picture how mental health remains elusive, and life is spent grappling with its challenges. Finding solutions to these challenges seems almost impossible.

We aim to raise awareness to Make Mental Health a Universal Human Right. Our primary objective is to offer mental health guidance to women and children living in remote communities, where awareness and support are lacking. We aim to confront significant socio-economic challenges like poverty and limited education access while working to eradicate cultural barriers and the stigma linked to mental health. Help Prevent Addiction – September 2023

Youth is a time of exploration and curiosity, but it can also lead to risky behaviors. As young individuals shape their identities, peer pressure and other factors can push them towards addiction. Studies show that over 90% of those aged 11 and above experiment with harmful substances, increasing the risk of violent behavior.

o address these pressing issues, the CBN Foundation Prevent Addiction Campaign is conducting interactive workshops this September. These workshops aim to raise awareness among children about the dangers of addiction and provide them with tools to channel their energy into positive habits. We also plan to conduct workshops for teachers and parents to help them identify addiction signs, making them a crucial line of defense.

With your support, the CBN Foundation teams aim to reach communities where addiction’s impact is significant but awareness is lacking, to create a stronger defense against this issue. Visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to see how your support is enriching lives.

WASH Campaign – August 2023

This August, we are shedding light on a lifeline that can transform our lives and uplift our communities – WASH, which stands for water, sanitation, and hygiene. WASH can control and prevent the spread of diseases that are silent killers.

Marginalised communities face life-altering challenges. The lack of access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene facilities leads to the spread of diseases, affecting the health and well-being of these communities. Moreover, young girls and women bear the brunt of water injustice, having to travel long distances to fetch water, hindering their educational and personal development. This situation calls for urgent action to improve the living conditions and opportunities for these communities.

To address these pressing issues, the CBN Foundation WASH Campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene practices. By sharing knowledge about affordable methods to purify water and advocating for water-saving practices, the campaign seeks to empower communities across India. Join us in embracing these teachings and empower families to have a better quality of life, more time together, and greater educational opportunities. When a mother no longer has to go far and wide to fetch clean water, she can dedicate that time to her children and family.

Your support can make sure children, who are the backbone of our future, are able to put the bucket down and pick up a pen. Your contribution will ensure their dreams do not drown in water scarcity, and their education and empowerment are not tied to the availability of water supply. Spark Change – July 2023

Every child deserves a fair chance to shine! Unfortunately, many young, innocent children are deprived of their fundamental rights every day. Abandoned, denied the opportunity to receive an education, and left to fend for themselves on the unforgiving streets.

Though the Indian Constitution enshrines child rights, including equality, protection from forced labor, access to education, and more, we continue to see issues like poor hygiene, lack of nutritious food, and child mortality persist. It is a grave issue that we cannot turn a blind eye to any longer – we must change this!

This July we are introducing the CBN Foundation Child Rights Protection Campaign. With a strong sense of responsibility and dedication, we aim to raise awareness among marginalized children about their rights through interactive workshops. These fun workshops include peer-to-peer tutoring by school children volunteers, and by the Executive Director of the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation. We want to empower marginalized children and enlighten caregivers to create a society that respects every child.

Your support will help foster an environment where children can thrive, where their dreams are nurtured and their rights are safeguarded! Together, we can ensure the future leaders of our nation are given the care, protection and opportunities they so rightfully deserve. Digital Gender Equality – May 2023

We can recall how the lockdown presented challenges to many students in remote communities, who did not have access to essential resources and tools for online learning. Similarly, the lack of digital literacy is a major obstacle for all members of society, with women in remote communities being the most affected. Unfortunately, many women avoid using digital technology because it is believed that it may interfere with their family and household responsibilities. To address this challenge, we are committed to closing the gender gap in digital literacy, particularly for marginalized women.

We firmly believe that digital literacy is a crucial factor in empowering women and enabling them to access various opportunities, including education, healthcare, and financial services. With digital literacy, women can also participate in the digital economy and earn a livelihood. Through the CBN Foundation Digital Gender Equality Campaign workshops, we aim to provide women with awareness, skills, and confidence so they can engage in online transactions, grow their businesses, and explore work opportunities that do not require physical labor.

With your contribution, we can reduce the gender gap in digital literacy and enable women to access the benefits of the digital world. Embrace Equity – March 2023

In our society, taboos, stigmas, and societal norms often determine what a woman can and cannot share, even within her family. Despite having the right to equal freedom of speech, it is a huge challenge for women to confidently express their views in front of others. In the World Gender Forum 2022 Gender Gap Report, India ranked 135 out of 146 countries, which is sadly very low. Today, where working women face challenges such as sexist jokes, discrimination, and unequal pay, marginalized women often face even greater challenges that we cannot even imagine.

In remote communities where there is no awareness of gender equity, women are often seen trying to hide their tears under the veil. We are determined to change that. Through CBN Foundation’s Women’s Protection Campaign, we are reaching out to the marginalized women of our country and #EmbracingEquity. With your support, we are introducing them to their rights. We will discuss financial literacy, legal literacy, physical health, protection against abuse and cyber crimes. We are collaborating with experts who will share their knowledge through interactive workshops and explain how equity is the means to get to equality.

Your contribution to the Women’s Protection Campaign will ensure that all women can live with the hope that they do not have to face challenges alone. Cyber Safety Awareness – February 2023

In one click we can transport ourselves into a parallel world – the cyberworld. While this world brings us unlimited information, entertainment and even engaging educational tools, it also brings life-threatening cybercrimes.

All around us, we see children engaging with phones, tablets and laptops, even without attaining the simpler dexterity of holding a pencil! While there are some positive impacts of technology on children, there seem to be far more threats and dangers. The POCSO Act enforces measures to protect the innocence of children, many online predators get away with cyberbullying, online extortion, child pornography, violation of privacy, identity theft, etc. Families in remote communities rarely know the ways online predators operate, leaving them more susceptible to cybercrimes. Through the CBN Foundation Cyber Safety Campaign, we plan to equip parents and children with knowledge and awareness of the dangers online.

Your support will enable us to conduct more workshops in communities where families are in need of life saving awareness. Through interactive workshops, we will empower children with the understanding of how to be safe online. Child Safety Campaign – January 2023

This new year we are looking at ways to weave a safety net of awareness around children, especially those children who are never taught about personal safety. The harsh reality of violence against children is widespread. Many children face challenges that are well beyond their capabilities, in schools, homes and in the community. From bullying and violence to sexual abuse, children are having to fight their way through life-altering incidents, alone, unsupported and unaware of a better experience.

While it is no secret that they are facing life-long damages – mentally and physically, we want to change this reality and bring about a positive change for them. While our country is addressing problems like child marriage, sexual abuse and child labor through the POSCO Act, we are doing our bit of creating more awareness and possibility for prevention of such heinous crimes. We are conducting awareness workshops that will teach young, impressionable children ways to keep themselves safe. From workshops teaching about ‘Good Touch Bad Touch’ and activities teaching how to safe a bold NO to bullies, we are covering it all.

Your support will enable us to conduct more workshops in communities where such horrible problems exist, but awareness doesn’t. Joy of Giving – December 2022

The Christmas season is here! While some of us are meticulously planning our feasts and a multitude of outfits, others are trying hard to scrounge up enough to put food on the table and warm clothes on their backs. The pandemic has pushed millions of families below the poverty line. Many cannot afford the simple pleasures of life – a boxful of sweets or a new outfit during the festive season. Children long to twirl and sway in a new dress or kurta.

We believe that with your partnership we can bring more joy and excitement to households where hope is dimming. Women have been trained to transform gently used sarees into glamorous outfits for children. Not only will they bring smiles to children, but they’re now trained to earn a substantial living for themselves!

This December, we have planned celebrations for children where we plan on surprising them with new outfits made specially for them, and exciting activities that will leave them feeling loved and special this festive season! They end up wearing old, worn-out clothes or hand-me-downs despite the deep desire to wear bright, colorful and new clothes as they celebrate with their families. To make their dreams come true, the CBN Foundation teams are launching the Joy of Sharing Campaign this November!

We’re spreading joy in three main ways: new festive clothes for children made from upcycled gently used sarees, contributing to the environment by reducing textile waste, and creating a source of living for women who have been trained to stitch these garments. Along with spreading joy to children and families, we are increasing our support to saving the environment through interactive workshops on waste management and segregation, making the best out of waste and planting an urban kitchen that will not only make small balconies and spaces look beautiful but will show them a new way of utilizing spaces!

Mental Health – October 2022

When we face phases of life that leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, we often turn to a mental health professional or even the internet for coping mechanisms. But people in remote communities usually just think ‘jee ghabra raha hai’ or ‘dil bhaari lag raha hai’. Their thoughts don’t go beyond that because the have no knowledge of the term ‘mental health’. This term simply doesn’t exist in their vocabulary.

Many remote communities don’t have enough doctors to adequately treat physical symptoms, let alone mental health symptoms. We find people with psychiatric challenges who are called derogatory terms like ‘pagal’, being forced to disconnect from their families, friends and the community. This just makes their condition worse. The stigma and web of denial prevent people from ever getting the help they need.

You can help CBN Foundation teams bring much needed knowledge and support to families in remote communities. Your support will help families, who are in the throes of finding a stable income in the aftermath of the pandemic, to cope with the stresses and pressures of feeding their little ones. Inclusion – June 2022

Looks, color, gender, age, abilities… These are just a few reasons people are segregated into different categories. People who are different from most, are often looked down upon and shunned from activities, gatherings or society in general. Even elderly people are often left feeling invisible and invalid because of the way they are treated. To make matters worse, not only are they left feeling alone, they are often devalued and made to feel unwanted.

Here’s a truth bomb: most of us have done this too, somewhere, somehow. We’ve made someone feel less valued, or less important than others. We’ve avoided giving opportunities and due respect to them, and pitied them instead. Sometimes we’ve even practiced tokenism and called it inclusion or kindness.

This June, CBN Foundation is bringing to light genuine and unique ways to be intentionally inclusive of all the people around us. Whether it is our house help, the differently-abled person on our metro route, or the various people we cross on the roads of this bustling country. We’re discussing Social Role Valorization in a way to empower everyone we meet with the power of inclusion! From the right words to use to the needed mindset – we’re discussing it all!

We’re conducting awareness workshops to explain what SRV is and how we can learn to truly include the devalued people around us. Your support towards the Inclusion Campaign would change numerous lives for the better. Your contribution would enable more SRV awareness and Inclusion awareness workshops that would ensure many who are devalued feel valued and respected; it would ensure that they are given opportunities to participate in the community with the support of the community. Cyber Security – March 2022

While the internet brought a lot of excitement and convenience into our lives during the pandemic and lockdowns, it also brought to light some very disturbing facts. The National Crime Record Bureau 2020 data states that there was an alarming 400% increase in cyber-crimes against children since 2019. And just two days after 2020’s lockdown Pornhub saw a bump up of 95% with a surge in demand for violent explicit content involving children.

Parents work hard to safeguard their children from strangers and dark alleys, but the equally heinous dangers of the dark net are often ignored or mishandled. As children sit in the confines of their own homes, they can be easily targeted by predators online. Clearly, the topic of online safety needs to be addressed more deeply to mitigate its dangers.

This February, CBN Foundation workshops are revolving around cyber security for families and children, especially in marginalised communities. Our teams are venturing into remote communities to spread vital information to parents and children who never had access to the ways of the online world. From cyber safety rules to ways to recognise fraud, scams and threats, they will learn to build a firewall around themselves. Through informative activities, children will learn how to draw the line with strangers in cyberspace and protect themselves from being bullied or exploited.

Your support will help CBN Foundation reach more vulnerable communities across the country and empower them with knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their little ones online. To see the difference you are making in their lives, visit Instagram and Facebook.

Empower Dignified Periods – September 2021

We are all striving to cope and accept a lifestyle that includes the rise and fall of Covid cases, lockdowns and increasing uncertainty of the economy. The marginalised communities are struggling the most to simply survive. Women in particular face gender inequality, taboos and lack of access to menstrual hygiene products due to loss of income among other reasons.

At a time when dialogues about periods and the necessary facilities for healthy management are crucial, CBN Foundation is conducting awareness workshops for adolescents and women in remote parts of the country, such as Lamdon School, Ladakh. These workshops are designed specifically to address the fear, myths and taboos surrounding periods. They ensure that children grow up with the right knowledge at the right age, enabling them to make informed decisions for their bodies.

Women also receive, reusable, eco-friendly, cloth pads made from tailor-waste in a kit that enables them to experience dignified and safe periods every month. The Period Kits are made by differently-abled artisans in Ladakh making them a source of comfort for the receivers and a source of livelihood for the artisans.
